Applying to have an exclusion on your Dental Therapy Scope of Practice Removed

With effect from Thursday 17 March 2011, the scope of Dental Therapy Practice has been amended to include (with the exception of the additional scope of Adult Care in Dental Therapy Practice), what in the past were referred to as Additional Scopes - being:
  • Pulpotomies;
  • Stainless Steel Crowns;
  • Radiography; and
  • Diagnostic Radiography.
From this date onwards, those dental therapy practitioners who are not qualified in any of Pulpotomies, Stainless Steel Crowns, Radiography and/or Diagnostic Radiography, will have exclusions placed upon their scope of practice to reflect that they are not qualified to practice in these areas, for example ' 'Dental Therapy Practice excludes Pulpotomies'.

To remove an exclusion from his or her registered scope of practice a dental therapy practitioner can undertake a Dental Council approved course upon the successful completion of which the practitioner may apply to the Dental Council to have the relevant exclusion on his or her scope of practice removed.

Application Form

The application form REG004 must be completed and submitted to the Dental Council together with the required supporting documentation and fees in order for an exclusion to be removed from a practitioner's registered dental therapy scope of practice.

Please Note

The additional scope of Adult Care in Dental Therapy Practice remains a stand alone additional scope available to appropriately qualified registered dental therapy practitioners.
