Provision of dental grills

The issue of dental grills was recently considered by the Dental Council of New Zealand following some concerns expressed to Council members about potential safety issues arising from the fitting of grills.

The Council agreed that although the provision of dental grills does lie within the clinical dental technician scope of practice, the fitting of grills is potentially harmful. The Council believes that the fitting of grills requires the same judgement and care that would be exercised during the fitting of a partial denture, including the sighting of an oral health certificate. A copy of the oral health certificate can be accessed from this website at the end of this document.

Also as a result of Dental Council concerns, information for the public about the wearing of grills has been posted on the Dental Council website on the FAQs page.
