Examinations
The Dental Council is required under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (the Act) to protect the health and safety
of members of the public by ensuring that oral health practitioners are competent and fit to practice. To achieve this, Council
provides a framework for the registration of oral health practitioners.
The Dental Council recognises a number of overseas qualifications as equivalent to New Zealand standards. These are known as prescribed qualifications.
For overseas-qualified practitioners who do not have prescribed dental qualifications, the Dental Council offers examinations for each
practitioner group. A pass in the Dental Council of New Zealand examination is deemed a prescribed qualification for registration in
New Zealand.
The following examinations are available:
Examination Policies
There are currently two examination policies that exist - one policy for those applicants with Assessment of Eligibility applications submitted
PRIOR to 4 November 2009 and those applicants who submitted after 4 November 2009.
* Please note that these policies rescind all previous policies related to examinations.
