The New Zealand Dental Technician Registration Examination
Overseas-qualified practitioners without prescribed dental
technician qualifications or clinical dental
technician qualifications may be required to sit and pass the New Zealand Dental Technicians Registration Examination
(NZDTechREX) to satisfy the Council of their competence to practice as a dental technician or clinical dental
technician in New Zealand before registration is granted.
NZDTechREX is a week-long examination testing both scientific knowledge and practical skills.
Application Form
To apply to sit the NZDTechREX Examination you should complete form DE001. To determine whether you
are eligible to enrol in this examination refer to the examination policy.
Please complete the relevant form, and return to the Dental Council together with the necessary documentation and
fees to commence your application for enrolment in this examination.
Candidate Information
The Faculty of Dentistry, University of Otago, is offering a one week scientific update course on the week prior to the NZDTechREX

The examination fee is set on a cost-recovery basis. The fee will differ dependent on the number of candidates.
Examination Timetable
In general, there will be one examination each year. The Examinations Timetable
page shows the latest schedule of examinations. The examination is held on an 'as required' basis. To date, no examinations
have been held.
