Changes to the New Zealand Dental Registration (NZDREX) Examination
The Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ) has recently reviewed the written NZDREX process. The purpose of
the review was to promote harmonisation of Australian and New Zealand examination processes and to respond
to candidate feedback on the desirability of overseas examination venues and a greater MCQ component in the
examination.
DCNZ is pleased to advise that from March 2007 candidates for NZDREX (written) will no longer need to
travel to New Zealand to sit the examination.
From March 2007 NZDREX written will be run jointly by DCNZ and the Australian Dental Council (ADC) and will
be available in a number of overseas venues. It will also have the new title of "Overseas Trained Dentist
Preliminary Examination". Overseas trained dentists who wish to emigrate to, and practise dentistry in,
New Zealand need to apply to sit the joint ADC/DCNZ examination through the DCNZ pathway. Preliminary
assessment forms will shortly be available under the examination section of this website.
Please note that the NZDREX Clinical Examination will continue to be administered by the DCNZ and held in
New Zealand.
